A New Season to Enjoy Lakefield College School Those of us lucky enough to work or live on the Lakefield campus during the summer months know what a treasure The Grove is during July and August. Early morning paddles, quick dips in the lake at lunch, long walks at Northcote Campus at dusk, campfires at the waterfront: it is outdoors every day at its most pleasurable. We have had an online academy for many years, serving the needs of our students who wish to stay academically active during the summer. And for the last two years, we have had some of our incoming international students brush up on their English skills while joining us for a few weeks on campus to practice the language as they gain confidence in paddling, camping and other outdoor education skills. Alumni Spotlight: Alice Prindiville-Porto ’18 — Life After LCS

Alice Prindiville-Porto '18 is a third-year Sociology student at the University of Ottawa. We spoke with Alice about her life after LCS, her experience at university, her plans for the future, and her advice for current LCS students. Can you tell us about your life after graduating from LCS? It’s only been a few years since I graduated, but I’m at the University of Ottawa (UOttawa) studying Sociology. I took Grade 11 Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology with Ms. Chellew and I loved the Sociology unit. It was a really nice intersection of social science disciplines. I chose UOttawa because of the program and the city. It was a great transition from Lakefield -- a step up in terms of population size, but still the feeling of a community. Alumni Spotlight: Terry Ross ’92 —The Value of Entrepreneurial Thinking

Terry Ross '92 is the Director, Strategic Centre Initiatives at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary. In his role, Ross '92 oversees the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Centre for Corporate Sustainability. We spoke with Terry about his life after LCS, his work driving innovation and sustainability in Calgary and the value of entrepreneurial thinking. Tell us about your life after graduating from LCS? After graduation in '92, I attended Bishop’s University and studied psychology and philosophy. It was interesting enough, but I didn’t have a particular mission or vision about where my life was headed career-wise. Following that, I moved out to Alberta and started working in a variety of sales jobs, which were fantastic because they were tough. They toughened me up to the idea of putting myself out there, getting used to rejection, and thinking about being empathetic to the particular needs of someone that you’re talking to.…
