The Benefits of Outdoor Learning at LCS – Learning English and French in the Outdoors

Lakefield College School's Learning Languages through the Outdoors program offers students a unique opportunity to earn a credit in four weeks and improve their English or French language proficiency while enjoying the benefits of a Canadian summer outdoor experience.  What to Expect When students arrive at LCS, they will be immersed in English or French, applying their new vocabulary and skills in outdoor classrooms and activities as they paddle, camp, build fires, identify native plants and animals, and much more. Our courses include daily classes, with Grammar Workshops led by LCS English Language Learning (ELL) and French as a Second Language (FSL) Teachers plus unique Outdoor Education Study Hall sessions led by wilderness guides and outdoor educators. Student Entrepreneurship & Good Eats: Meeting the Needs of Our Community

Contributors: Jack Freeman '21 and Osman Yousufi '21 At LCS, our vision is to inspire teenagers to become leaders who care, connect, and contribute. When students have a passion for a particular issue, we encourage them to learn more and pursue their interests. It’s no surprise that when LCS students Jack Freeman '21 and Osman Yousufi '21 started LCS Eats in December 2020, their community of students supported them wholeheartedly.  Jack and Osman along with Owen Leung '21, Matt Northey '21, Scott Doggett '21, Christian Levec '21, and Aidan Maltman '21 created LCS Eats - a (very) localized version of UberEats to deliver food to their peers on campus. A Learning Schedule Designed For Student Well-Being and Engagement

Our experience and research into the very best educational models reveals that the daily schedule our students live by has a huge impact on their learning and well-being. This year has been very exciting for Lakefield College School. We were able to merge brain-based science about learning with other measures to ensure we could meet our Safety First COVID protocols while providing our students with a dynamic and flexible schedule to accommodate current needs. As we look ahead to September 2021, we are even more excited to offer an enhanced year-long modular schedule that is designed to maximize opportunities for creating the transformative learning experiences our students deserve.
